Software Specifications for the G1 Data-Logger and ProActive

The G1 data-logger’s software package allows a variety of pipeline survey types to be programmed (see below) and, when combined with MCM’s push button reference electrode data-probes and associated equipment, the G1 can be used to run pipeline surveys. The G1 data-logger software works hand-in-hand with MCM’s data acquisition, storage, editing and graphical reporting software program, known as ProActive.

Pipeline Survey Types Programmable on the G1:
  • Trigger-Mode CIS (both manual and automatic trigger) and Timer-Mode CIS
  • DCVG Surveys
  • Combined DCVG/CIS(single-pass) Surveys
  • Surface Potential Surveys (soil-to-soil surveys on bare or poorly-coated pipe)

The voltmeter reading mode can be selected as follows, based on the survey type and whether or not current interruption is being applied:

  • Single-Read – for Always On or Always Off (native state) CIS
  • On/Off Pairs – either with DSP (Digital Signal Processing) applied or with GPS Sync. applied in the case where GPS current interrupters are used (both reading modes eliminate reading errors due to the presence of transition spiking)
  • Min./Max. (CIS only) – applied when On/Off waveforms are noisy and On/Off transitions are not obvious

An internal WAAS-enabled GPS receiver allows for automatic logging of critical position fixes (including position logging of pipeline facilities, features and DCVG anomalies). The G1 is also external GPS receiver ready (for example, Trimble Pathfinder Receivers can be employed).

Survey data stored on the G1 data-logger (in flat binary files) are acquired by ProActive and associated with relevant line segments in a ProActive database on your PC (or on a server, in the case of the Client/Server version of ProActive). ProActive maintains a permanent record of your survey data and the surveys are readily accessible via a table that can be conveniently configured in terms of surveys performed on particular pipelines or in terms of survey types etc. Once saved by ProActive, survey data can be edited, if required, prior to the generation of reports (textual and/or graphical reports). In addition, edited survey data (as well as unprocessed survey data) can be exported from ProActive to either Excel or Win/CIS files, if required.

With GPS position data posted to the ProActive database (via downloading survey data from the G1 to ProActive), graphical reports can be readily generated which include maps (topographical, photographical and street maps), with the pipeline overlaid, displayed together with the pipeline survey data.

ProActive also provides a routine which allows other survey data (such as SmartPig, PCM, Soil Resistivity etc. data), recorded on a given line segment, to be imported and reported graphically along with the CIS and DCVG survey data imported directly from the G1 data-logger.

Waveform Analysis:

On/Off (pipe-to-soil) waveform data can be displayed on the G1 screen and stored (for subsequent posting to a test site in the ProActive database). Single or multiple waveform periods can be displayed (and saved).
